Millstream River

Severely eroded bank

Waterfront property

Eroded bank
Millstream 21
Wednesday, August 19, 2009

Issue:
Camp located on waterfront. The site is located on an elbow of the river in front of a deep pool. River banks are severely eroded. The lack of vegetation in front of the camp and the fact that the river makes a very sharp 90% turn is a bad combination for bank erosion.
Action Required:
First, the eroded bank should be stabilized with rocks to slow down erosion. After, it is relatively simple to restore a buffer zone because all you need to do is let nature take its course. The first step consists of simply not cutting the strip beside the water. Before long, natural vegetation will reclaim its rights and benefit your property. Shortly after that, shrubs and trees will take root.
