Monday, August 23, 2010

Issue:
Private woodlot with forestry road that crosses the stream with two cement culverts. Wooden rip-rap around the culverts. Woody debris obstruction in front of the culverts. Old camp and pile of debris and garbage on right bank. Moderate erosion on the stream banks. Stream diversion to create a trout pond. Future mine site in the area.
Action Required:
A follow-up is required to monitor the effects of the new mine on the river. Remove the woody debris obstruction upstream from the culverts and also the various debris scattered on the right bank. Landowner education on the importance of maintaining an adequate buffer zone on his property and the effects of a man-made pond on water quality.
